EDUCATION SYSTEM

The education system in the UK is divided into four main parts

• Primary education
• Secondary education
• Further education
• Higher education

UK has become one of the top destinations to study around the world. With traditions of excellence dating back hundreds of years, high class institutions in every corner and much more flexibility than many other countries, the United Kingdom has much to offer international students that other English-speaking countries cannot offer.

Tertiary Education

"Tertiary education" includes further Education (FE), as well as Higher Education (HE). Since the 1970s specialized FE colleges called “tertiary colleges” have been set up to offer courses such as A Levels that allow progression to Higher Education, alongside vocational courses. In some areas where schools do not universally offer sixth forms, tertiary colleges function as a sixth form college as well as a general FE college.

Higher Education

Higher Education in Canada is provided by Higher Education (HE) colleges, university colleges, Universities and private colleges. Students normally enter higher education as undergraduates from age 18 onwards, and can study for a wide variety of vocational and academic qualifications, including certificates of higher education and Higher National Certificates at level 4, Diploma of Higher Education, Higher National Diplomas and Foundation degrees at level Bachelor degrees (normally with honors) at level 6, and integrated Master’s

• Post graduate – 1- 2 years

UNIVERSITIES & COLLEGES IN CANADA

Canada has got the top educational institutions in the world and the Canadian universities are internationally regarded for their high academic standards and high prominence on research in post-secondary education. The top-ranked universities in Canada are the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, McMaster University, Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, University of Alberta, Queen’s University, University of Waterloo, etc. In addition, Canadian government support research in a diverse range of cutting-edge areas.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

In Canada a student visa is often referred to as a 'study permit'. If you intend to study at a Canadian educational institution, you must apply for a study permit. Canada’s student permit (student visa) program allows an individual to enter Canada as a full time student at an approved institute for the duration of the specified course or program. Besides acquiring a study permit, one also has to meet the requirements of the Canadian Immigration Act and Regulations. Passport and visa processing may take several months hence it would be wise to factor these in when you start planning the course intake in which you plan to study.

Along with Visa application, one needs to submit all the documents such as,

• Filled student application form
• Completed Supplementary Questionnaire
• Official acceptance letter from the chosen Canadian university, college or technical institute
• TOEFL/IELTS scores, if applicable
• Passport, valid for at least one year from the planned date of entry to Canada, plus valid passports of any accompanying dependents
• Bank draft for the applicable visa processing fees
• A Certificate of Acceptance from the province of Quebec if there’s plan to study in Quebec

A student must substantiate his/her ability to pay for the tuition fee, pay for day-to-day living for himself and his family, and pay for return ticket back to the country of origin once the program comes to an end. Once the essential documents have been submitted, a student may be called for an interview with a Canadian Visa Officer. Thereafter a student along with his accompanying family members would be instructed on taking a medical examination. On successful completion of the required formalities, the candidate would be issued a visa if there are no other concerns with the application.
